Huma Qureshi opens up about body shaming; says it erodes somebody’s confidence

Huma Qureshi, who is coming up with a film titled, ‘Double XL’, recently opened up about dealing with fat shaming and advocating body positivity in the industry.

Talking about the unrealistic beauty standards, Huma stated the problem is very deeply ingrained in us. We look at women’s bodies and use dismissive words. Body shaming erodes somebody’s confidence. The actress also added that when they make a film about it and use their position as actors to create awareness, they start a healthy conversation. Huma also went on to say that instead of making a documentary, they wanted to make an entertaining film and bring about a change in people’s mindsets.

Talking about the physical transformation she had to undergo for the film, Huma added that she had to gain weight for the film. According to her, she also had to stretch herself, physically, mentally, and spiritually, from one end of the spectrum to the other.

Having dealt with body shaming herself for years, Huma admitted that the subject is very close to her heart. According to her, women face the issue every single day. Body shaming is not restricted to only women who are in front of the camera. So many women have walked up to her and said that the subject is relevant, the actress concluded.

'Double XL' is directed by Satram Ramani and will feature Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi, Zaheer Iqbal and Mahat Raghavendra as lead characters.
