Hulu Greenlights Limited Series On Amanda Knox, Starring Margaret Qualley

Series based on Amanda Knox's wrongful conviction and journey to prove innocence.

Hulu has given the green light to a limited series centered around the story of Amanda Knox, with Margaret Qualley tapped to portray the lead role. The upcoming series, currently untitled, is a collaboration between 20th Television and The Littlefield Company, known for producing acclaimed shows like Fargo and The Handmaid's Tale. The project has swiftly progressed in development at the streaming platform owned by Disney.

The series, created by K.J. Steinberg, who has worked on hit shows like This Is Us and Gossip Girl, will also serve as the showrunner. Notably, Amanda Knox and Monica Lewinsky are part of the executive producing team for the eight-episode series.

Hulu describes the show as a true account of Knox's wrongful conviction in the murder case of her roommate Meredith Kercher, and her 16-year journey to prove her innocence. The case garnered significant media attention over the years, with Knox and her then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, initially arrested after Kercher was found murdered in their shared apartment while studying in Italy.

Knox and Sollecito were convicted in 2009, had their convictions overturned in 2011, found guilty again in a retrial, and ultimately exonerated in 2015 by Italy's Supreme Court of Cassation. This high-profile case has previously inspired various adaptations, including a 2011 Lifetime movie, a 2014 English film titled The Face of an Angel, and a 2016 feature documentary. Knox also raised concerns about the 2021 movie Stillwater, alleging similarities to her own story.

Margaret Qualley, known for her roles in Drive-Away Dolls and acclaimed series like Maid and Fosse/Verdon, will lead the cast. She is a two-time Emmy nominee and has appeared in projects such as Poor Things, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and HBO's The Leftovers.

The Hulu series will be executive produced by Steinberg, Qualley, Warren Littlefield, Lisa Harrison, Ann Johnson, and Graham Littlefield from The Littlefield Company, along with Monica Lewinsky, and Amanda Knox and Chris Robinson through Knox Robinson Productions.
