Hull has been named as the best connected city outside of London.
The full fibre broadband network of KCom has given the area a huge boost in the research by tech solutions specialists Nomad Digital.
Cross referencing signal ranking with bus stops and train stations per capita, Hull was second only to the capital when it came to the UK's major urban sprawls.
On broadband alone it came out five times better than London.
Global marketing and event manager at Nomad, Vicki Sloan, said: “It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that London topped the pile, but we were surprised to discover their broadband score was the sixth worst in the UK, with Hull ranking number one in that department.
“Being constantly connected is becoming the expected norm and at Nomad we believe that this should not stop when you step onto a train or bus – our vision is to connect everything and our study was a great way to provide us with valuable UK connectivity insights”.
Hull Trains has recently returned to the rails after almost five months of furlough inaction, linking the two cities, while KCom has just signed the contact to roll-out the £100 million network expansion further in East Yorkshire and into northern Lincolnshire.
Belfast, Bangor in North Wales, and Lincoln, rounded off the top five.
Despite ranking so highly in regard to broadband connectivity, people in Yorkshire are among the UK’s least concerned about digital connectivity, sitting considerably below the national average, according to Nomad.
