Hull KR player Charlie Cavanaugh suffered a horror injury on Thursday night against Wigan Warriors, and the horrific moment was captured live by the TV cameras. The Robins' hunt for a Super League play-off spot suffered a hit as they were defeated 46-4 at the DW Stadium at the hands of the Warriors.
However the result was not the only cause for concern, as the visitors also saw four players suffer injury during the heavy defeat in Lachlan Coote, Will Dagger, Connor Moore and Charlie Cavanaugh. The latter, Cavanaugh no doubt suffered the worst though.
Part way through the match - which was televised live on Sky Sports Rugby League - TV cameras caught the moment the 20-year-old suffered his horrendous knee injury.
The dislocated knee came when the young hooker collided with Wigan’s Patrick Mago. Unsurprisingly Cavanaugh was substituted off with just four minutes to play. The injury hampered what was meant to be a special day for the 20-year-old, after coming in his Super League debut.
Following the match, the hooker seemed to remain in good spirits despite his knee problem, writing: “What a feeling making my super league debut for @hullkrofficial a childhood dream come true and a day I’ll never forget, shame it ended with another dislocated knee.
Cavanaugh’s injury adds yet another name to The Robins’ lengthy injury list, and boss Danny McGuire said afterwards that the worrying situation could ‘not get any worse’. He said: “It can't get any worse for me as a head coach. Further down the line, this can be seen as a good situation to learn from.
“If everything was easy in sport, it would be easy. I'm already focusing now on Toulouse, which will be difficult." Kingston Rovers look to put their injury woes behind them and restart their play-off charge when they host bottom side Toulouse next Thursday.
