Hull KR forward Mose Masoe undergoes serious spinal surgery as family are flown to UK

Hull Kingston Rovers forward Mose Masoe is recovering after surgery on a “serious spinal injury”.

The Samoan international and former St Helens front rower was stretchered off in the early stages of Sunday’s pre-season clash at Wakefield.

He was taken straight to hospital and operated on overnight at Leeds General Infirmary.

His club say that Masoe has since showed signs of improvement, after the RFL Benevolent Fund flew his family over from Down Under.

A Rovers statement read: “Following Mose’s surgery last night, he is awake and alert and has continued to show signs of improvement.

“Mose has an overwhelmingly positive mindset and would like to thank everyone for their concern and well wishes.

“He would also like to extend special thanks to staff at Leeds General Infirmary for their unbelievable care.

“The club will continue to provide further updates as soon as they can, and in the meantime would ask for privacy for Mose and his family at such a difficult time.”

Masoe joined Rovers from St George Illawarra in 2017 having played in the NRL for Penrith Panthers and Sydney Roosters.
