Hull KR ban fan until end of season after throwing flare onto the pitch

A fan of Hull Kingston Rovers has been banned from attending games and events for the rest of the season.

The Rugby League side have since released a statement regarding the incident at Leigh Sports Village in Manchester.

“Following an incident at Leigh Sports Village involving a supporter throwing a flare onto the field of play, the club can confirm we have written to the offender to inform them that they are banned from all Hull Kingston Rovers events and games until the end of the season", they said.

They continued: “Hull Kingston Rovers take supporter safety very seriously and will continue to ensure supporting the club at home or on the road is a safe environment.

“Ahead of this Saturday’s Derby clash against Hull FC, all supporters are reminded that they are representing the club at all times, and are advised additional security measures may be in place at the game.”

Hull KR were able to win the game in which the incident occurred, against Leigh Centurions 34-28 earlier this month.

They now turn their attention to what is sure to be a fiery derby clash against Hull FC.

They will be looking for revenge after losing the past two meetings against their arch rivals.

Hull KR forward Matty Storton will be sure to feature, especially after he committed his future to the team.

The 22-year-old signed a two-year contract extension earlier this week, keeping him at The Robins until 2024.

"I'm over the moon, it was a no-brainer really when I got approached by the club to sign the extension - I snapped their hand off," he told the club site.

"All the coaching staff believe in me. It was an easy decision. I'm really happy about the transition to playing prop.

"I want to push on to that starting spot and hopefully over the next few years become a regular in that starting 13."

Storton joined the side in 2020 after graduating from the Bradford Bulls academy and has featured in all but two games for Hull KR this season.
