Hull City join Portsmouth and Nottingham Forest in pursuit of departing Bristol Rovers captain Tom Lockyer - reports

Championship outfit Hull City are the latest side to be linked with signing Bristol Rovers' outgoing skipper Tom Lockyer.

Centre-back Lockyer is a free agent this summer after leaving the Gas at the end of his contract.

He is understood to be in discussions with at least four different Championship clubs over his future, with other top end League One sides also interested in securing his services as he enters the peak years of his playing career.

The Portsmouth News  are reporting that League One Portsmouth are very keen on the 24-year-old defender who has made 238 appearances for Rovers and is a full Welsh international.

Meanwhile there have been contrasting reports about the level of interest from Nottingham Forest this summer. Bristol Live understands  the club made contact with the Wales international earlier in the season over his availability however local media believe Lockyer is now not a prime target for the club.

Forest had monitoring his position this time last year, during Aitor Karanka’s tenure at the City Ground, but according to  Nottingham Live , Lockyer is not high on Forest manager Martin O’Neill’s list of targets.

O’Neill is looking to put his stand on the Forest squad during his first full transfer window at the club.

Meanwhile this weekend BBC Humberside journalist David Burns says 'transfer target whispers' suggest Hull City are looking at adding the centre back.

Two weeks ago, speaking to BBC Radio Bristol, Lockyer said: “It's about weighing things up at the minute, it's too easy to rush into things and get sucked in by certain aspects of different clubs.

"Realistically there are four Championship teams who are willing to put something on the table and there's a few other League One teams.

"I've got to go away with Wales this summer so it will be nice to have something done before that, whether we'll able to or not will be a different story."
