Hull City boss receives apology from EFL after Nottingham Forest refereeing 'blunder'

Hull City boss Grant McCann has revealed he received an apology from the English Football League following a controversial call in the Tigers' 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

The Reds ran out victors having come from behind at the City Ground, but it was a game that failed to avoid controversy.

Keane Lewis-Potter had put the visitors ahead but Steve Cooper's side were given a golden opportunity to draw level when referee John Busby awarded Forest a penalty.

George Honeyman and Alex Mighten clashed inside the area, with the City man winning the ball before the Forest youngster kicked his boot.

Lewis Grabban converted the subsequent spot-kick and a winner was eventually found when Brennan Johnson converted Grabban's cross from the right.

Speaking ahead of Hull's upcoming fixture with Blackpool on New Year's Day, McCann told Hull Live: "“We’ve come off the back of a defeat against Forest where I felt we were good in the game, I felt the penalty decision obviously swung the momentum of the game.

“I’ve since had an apology from the head of referees over it – the referee knows he’s made a real blunder.”
