Hugo Lloris sent home from Tottenham's pre-season tour of Asia due to illness

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has returned from the club’s pre-season tour of Asia early after going down with tonsillitis.

The Frenchman complained of feeling ill shortly after the squad touched down in Singapore on Thursday last week and he has not trained in Asia.

The World Cup winner did not feature in Sunday’s 3-2 win over Juventus in Singapore’s National Stadium as Paulo Gazzaniga played 90 minutes against the Italians.

The rest of the Spurs squad flew to Shanghai on a 9.45am Singapore Airlines flight this morning but Lloris returned to London to recover.

He is expected to return to training with the first team following Spurs’ final match against Manchester United here in Shanghai on Thursday.

Spurs began their International Champions Cup commitments against Maurizio Sarri's side on Sunday, which saw Tanguy Ndombele make his debut and Harry Kane score a 93rd-minute winner from the halfway line.

Erik Lamela gave Spurs the lead only for two goals in four minutes from Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo to turn the tide after the break.

Lucas Moura tucked home Ndombele's slide-rule pass soon after before Kane's stunning winner.
