Hugo Lloris reveals why he clashed with Son Heung-min during Tottenham's win over Everton

Hugo Lloris has explained the incident which saw him clash with teammate Son Heung-min in Monday night's win over Everton.

Jose Mourinho's men returned to winning ways thanks to Giovani Lo Celso's heavily deflected first-half effort.

But while the action at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium wasn't exactly riveting on Monday night, there was one particular flash point that has made the headlines.

At the end of the first half, Lloris clashed with Son, the pair shouting at each other in close proximity before being ushered away by teammates.

They were later pictured hugging as they left the tunnel after the half-time break and at full-time, Lloris explained the incident.

"It just belongs to the changing room," he told Sky Sports. "Outside you can say wherever you want. There is a lot of respect between all of the players.

"What happened between me and Sony is something that is just part of football sometimes.

"But there is no problem at all and you see at the end of the game that we are more than happy to be part of the team and to get the three points."

Asked if the clash was because of Son giving up on chasing his man in the lead up to a missed effort by Richarlison, Lloris confirmed: "Yeah. I think to concede a chance a few seconds before half-time because we don't press properly.

"That's what was annoying me but it's part of football. It's gone."

The French goalkeeper was also quizzed on whether he felt more intense in the game against Everton because of the poor performance in last week's defeat against Sheffield United.

"I don't know," he replied. "As I said before, we are in a situation where we need to fight. We are not happy to be in this position.

"The most important today is to give everything for the team and do everything to finish as high as we can.

"I repeat, we can only do it as a team,.

"When you play a season like this one, it is very easy to fall about as a team.

"But today we show that we are still together and ready to compete and fight to the end."
