Hugo Lloris explains why Antonio Conte will make the difference at Tottenham

Hugo Lloris believes that Antonio Conte will bring the "details" to Tottenham's play and the winning mentality that they have been missing.

The Spurs captain, who is the club's record Premier League appearance maker with 312 games, knows about winning, having lifted the World Cup aloft with France.

Lloris feels that Conte will bring that something extra to a football club that has struggled to take the next step to silverware in recent decades.

The Italian has won league titles at Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan and has quickly set to work in getting his philosophy across within Tottenham.

"Football is all about details and when you come close to the final step, details are so important," Lloris said in an interview for Spurs' newsletter.

"We know that we have the manager who can help the team improve in those details.

"Antonio Conte’s CV talks by itself. He’s bringing his energy, his football approach but also, mainly, his mentality.

"He has the winning culture in his DNA. He played all his career for Juve, was at Juve as a manager and has won everywhere he’s been.

"So, it’s important to use his experience, but also for the players to take responsibility, and to become better as a team."

Spurs host Liverpool on Sunday afternoon having not played a game of football since their 3-0 win against Norwich City on December 5.

A Covid outbreak swept through their camp and resulted in nine first team players, seven members of the coaching staff and a large number of U23 players testing positive.

With three matches called off and the first team area of their Hotspur Way training complex shut down for three days, the north London club have not had the best preparation for the match against Jurgen Klopp's side, who have a trio of Covid cases of their own to contend with.
