Hughie Maughan has said that his younger sister is battling Covid-19 in intensive care.
Mary Ann Maughan, 19, is in a critical condition with pneumonia at Dublin's Mater Hospital.
The mum-of-one tested positive for coronavirus two weeks ago, along with her seven-month-old daughter.
Hughie posted on Instagram: "Please god my little sister will be ok, she's very sick with corona virus, she's got double pneumonia and been in hospital for a week.
"People don't understand the danger and seriousness of the situation the world is in, I completely understand the reasons for people's frustration and disappointment with losing out on holidays, weddings and events they planned for months...
"We need to start looking at the bigger picture guys, yes I can't work, I can't see family, my sister is very sick but also I understand we need to stand together and get through this."
She just completed her Leaving Cert and the family are now praying that she pulls through safely.
Hughie, 26, added to the Irish Sun: "One of the nurses was crying at Mary Ann’s bedside because she said she looked so young and she so wanted her to come back to her family.
“We’ve been told the next 48 hours will be critical, we have people praying for Mary Ann as far away as America and Australia.”
