Hughie Fury reveals what's changed ahead of Christian Hammer fight in Newcastle

Hughie Fury believes the defeats he has suffered in his career can provide an edge in his future bouts, as he's taken lessons from them.

The 26-year-old, cousin of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, returns to the ring on October 16th to face Germany's Christian Hammer on the BOXXER bill in Newcastle.

Fury has a 25-3 record in his professional career, suffering defeats to Joseph Parker, Kubrat Pulev and Alexander Povetkin, the last of which came in 2018.

His first loss against Parker in 2017 ended a run of 20 consecutive victories as a professional and, in the fights since, he's 7-2.

Those defeats haven't affected his mindset though, with the opposite in fact giving him what he believes to be an edge over his rivals.

“I’ve been in with a lot of fighters. Before it was a boy against a man, I was young, very young. I took all these fights against experienced fighters and now I’m coming of age myself and I’m ready to put that to work," he told the Chronicle.

"Once you’ve got all that experience underneath you, yon can take it as a win really because you can’t buy that experience.”

Fury goes toe-to-toe with Hammer on Tyneside, who is 4-3 in his last seven bouts and has 16 knockouts from 26 victories, setting up a fight Fury is excited for.

“Everything’s going well, I’m ready to go. I’m definitely looking forward to it, it’s going to be good to be on the Newcastle bill so I’m excited.

“I’m expecting a tough Hammer. He’s very good, very durable, so I’m looking forward to a good test.”

North East hero Lewis Ritson is also on the bill. The former British Lightweight Champion, of Forest Hall, narrowly missed out on becoming mandatory challenger to undisputed world lightweight Josh Taylor in his last outing.
