Hugh Jackman saves man and his son from strong currents at Bondi Beach

Hugh Jackman became a real-life superhero on Saturday when he saved his son and another man from strong currents in the sea.

In dramatic footage obtained by the Nine Network, the X-Men actor was filmed pulling a man from a fast-flowing channel at Bondi Beach, in Sydney, Australia, onto a sandbar, where the water is shallow. He was later filmed pulling his 15-year-old son from the same current.

Jackman was at the beach with his family when he spotted the man apparently struggling. My Kitchen Rules star Lynzey Murphy was with Jackman and told the Sunday Telegraph that he reacted quickly and calmly.

“When we got in the water 20 minutes earlier it was fine. Then the water just came up suddenly,” she said.

“Hugh just pulled them calmly on to the sandbar. He then said: 'All right, we are going to walk towards the flags.'”

Jackman underwent treatment for his fifth case of basal cell carcinoma, the mildest form of skin cancer, in February. The 47-year-old shared pictures of his dressings after treatment and urged his six million Twitter followers to use sunscreen.
