Hugh Jackman joins Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney as they cheer on Wrexham

Hugh Jackman joined Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney as he attended Wrexham AFC’s first game back in the Football League.

Jackman, 54, known for his roles in X-Men and The Greatest Showman, posted photos of himself with the duo, who bought Wrexham AFC in 2020, on his social media platforms and said: “Finally snagged an invite. Thanks Wrex.”

On Saturday, the trio watched Wrexham play against Milton Keynes Dons, who had been relegated from League One in May, or the team’s first game in football’s fourth tier since 2008.

Wrexham won the National League title last season with 111 points and won promotion to the Football League after 15 seasons of playing in the fifth-league of football, the semi-amateur National League.

The X-Men star has been close friends with Reynolds for years, and has been filming scenes as Wolverine for his forthcoming Deadpool sequel, which has now paused production amid the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike.

Jackman isn’t the first famous face to grace the Racecourse as they regularly invite their celebrity friends to games, which have included actor Paul Rudd, director Joe Russo, and comedian, Will Ferrell and Reynold’s wife, fellow actor Blake Lively.

Following their takeover of the club for £2million, Reynolds and McElhenney filmed Disney+ series Welcome To Wrexham – which documents the progress of the Welsh football team.

Reynolds and McElhenney had teamed up to purchase the fifth tier Red Dragons in the hopes that they could turn the club into an underdog story.

A second season of the documentary is slated for release in the UK on September 13.
