Hugh Jackman gushes over 'courageous' Meghan Markle and Prince Harry after Oprah chat

Hugh Jackman has spoken out in support of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry following their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The X-Men star, 52, took to social media to address the importance of speaking out and seeking help when struggling mentally.

In the tell-all chat with the US host, the former royals lifted the lid on their time in the palace, with pregnant Meghan admitting there was a time she "didn't want to be alive anymore".

When asked directly if she was thinking of self-harm and having suicidal thoughts at some stage, Meghan replied "yes".

She says Harry "cradled her" when she told him, and he later admitted it sent him to a "dark place".

Now Hugh has spoken out on the importance of voicing personal concerns, as he applauded Meghan for sharing such a difficult part of her life with people.

Meghan felt like she "couldn't be left alone" when she was around five months pregnant with Archie.

She said she was "ashamed" to admit it at the time but "knew that if she didn't say it she would do it".

Sharing a video on social media, the Aussie actor praised the "courageous" couple for their words and also wrote, "Mental health is not ever to be ignored."

"I recommend Oprah's interview with Meghan and Harry, which [wife Deborra-Lee Furness] and I and millions of people around the world watched last night with astonishment," he actor said in the video shared on Monday.

"Because there we were, witnessing an incredibly high-profile woman and her husband speak so openly, courageously, honestly, with such dignity about, really, the hardest time in their life and their cry for help."

"And I sit on the board for Gotcha4Life, an organisation in Australia that is dealing with this issue of suicide, as well as mental fitness," The Greatest Showman star said.

He went on: "And last night, I just thought, 'Everyone needs to see this,' because it is such an incredible example to never worry alone.

"Seek help. And if you're not getting help where you're looking for it, keep looking — go somewhere else, because there is always help. Never worry alone."

"So I just want to say thank you, Meghan. Thank you, Harry, for your courage," he added.
