Hugh Jackman gives warning to fans as he shares update on cancer test results

Hugh Jackman has given fans. an update on his health as he awaits the results of a biopsy - six years after his most recent treatment for skin cancer.

The 52-year-old actor was appearing on The One Show on Friday night when presenters Alex Jones and Gethin Jones decided to address the "elephant in the room" and ask the movie star for an update on his latest skin check.

"I had a biopsy on my nose three days ago, I find out in the next day or two if it is anything, it may not be," he revealed via video link.

"It's the least dangerous form of cancer but I'll let you know on social media," the Australian actor promised viewers.

Hugh was first diagnosed with skin cancer in 2013 after doctors discovered basal-cell carcinoma on his nose.

His most recent treatment for the disease was in 2015.

When discussing his experience with skin cancer, the X-Men actor pleaded with his fans to "wear sunscreen" and get regular checks.

"It’s certainly not my first, I’ve had five or six of them now. It’s pretty common when you have English parents and they take you over to Australia and you play cricket out in the sun," he told Alex and Gethin when they quizzed him on his history of skin cancer.

"So wear sunscreen and get a skin check," he pleaded with fans.

Basal-cell carcinoma is a type of non-melanoma skin cancer which the NHS say can appear “as a small, shiny pink or pearly-white lump with a translucent or waxy appearance. It can also look like a red, scaly patch.”

The lump can get bigger, become crusty, develop into a painless ulcer, or start to bleed – and it is recommended anyone with such a mark on their skin seek medical advice.

Hugh was appearing on BBC show to promote his latest movie Reminiscence, an upcoming American science fiction film.

Due to problematic technology issues, the dad-of-two's screen frequently froze as The One Show presenters questioned him about his latest project.

Earlier this month, Hugh took to social media to open up about his latest health scare.

:“A couple of notes ... please get skin checks often, please don't think it won't happen to you and, above all, please wear sunscreen," he told his followers while removing a plaster that had previously been on his nose.

“I just went to see Lisa and Trevor, my amazing dermatologist and doctors," he continued.

“They saw something that was a little irregular so they took a biopsy, getting it checked. So if you see a shot of me with this on, do not freak out."

Speaking about his treatments and diagnoses to People Magazine in the past, the movie star said: “It's always a bit of a shock just hearing the word 'cancer.’

”Being an Australian it's a very common thing. I never wore sunscreen growing up so I was a prime candidate for it."
