Hugh Jackman is said to be “heartbroken” in the wake of the scathing statement released by his ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness after filing for divorce.
ICYMI, Furness spoke out publicly earlier this week after submitting paperwork to end her 27-year marriage to Jackman, and the statement, provided to Daily Mail, held absolutely zero punches.
“My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal,” Furness said, all-but mouthing the words Sutton Foster.
“It’s a profound wound that cuts deep.”

Elsewhere in the statement, Furness said her belief “in a higher power” helped her “navigate the breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage”, adding that she has “gained much knowledge and wisdom through this experience”.
Now, insiders have lifted the lid on Jackman’s response to Furness’ stern words, telling Us Weekly that the actor was left “heartbroken” but has no plans to respond with a statement of his own.
“The statement took Hugh and mutual friends by surprise, because [Furness] wasn’t very direct with who she was speaking about but was alluding to Hugh, and that added emotional weight to it,” the source claimed.
While the Wolverine in him might feel compelled to retaliate, the insider said Jackman would prefer if things remained civil between the pair.
“Hugh loves and respects Deborra-Lee Furness,” they said.
“He will always love her and won’t allow it to get ugly.”

It comes after Gus Worland, a childhood friend of Jackman’s, said earlier this week that the actor is “going along well” despite his very public divorce.
Jackman and Furness announced their split “with gratitude, love and kindness” back in September of 2023, and in the time since, Jackman has been dogged by headlines regarding his relationship with Foster, his former co-star in the musical, The Music Man.
The pair were spotted macking on in an In-N-Out drive-through in January, after Furness got more than a little shady with her Instagram likes two months prior.
Seemingly returning favour, many thought Jackman’s more recent Instagram Reels post — shared soon after Furness’ statement and showing him dancing to the NSYNC song “Bye Bye Bye” — was itself a form of subtle shade.
Whatever the case, all the hullabaloo makes one thing clear; I need to find someone who’ll kiss me while also buying me an In-N-Out burger.
