Hugh Grant says he couldn’t stop crying on The Undoing shoot: ‘It’s something to do with children or love, or my wife – I can’t keep it at bay’

Hugh Grant has revealed he was very emotional while shooting Sky drama The Undoing.

The thriller stars Grant and Nicole Kidman as a successful couple whose lives begin to unravel after a mother of a child at their son’s school is murdered.

Speaking on tonight’s episode of The Graham Norton Show (20 November), Grant said he was tearful during the shoot in New York.

“Having spent a career unable to muster a single emotion, I find in my old age I can’t stop them,” he said. “It’s something to do with children or love, or my wife, or something, but I can’t keep it at bay.”

The actor joked: “I did this job partly to get away from my young children as they are exhausting at my age. I thought it would be great to have a break but every time I arrived in New York I missed them so badly I was a mess, so every scene was suddenly a cue for tears for me. I’d even go into a cafe and ask for a cup of coffee and the tears would come!”

Grant recently revealed that his wife, Swedish businesswoman Anna Eberstein, is not a fan of the majority of his work – but she did give The Undoing her seal of approval.

The newest episode of The Graham Norton Show, which airs on BBC One at 10.45pm, also features Tina Fey, Amy Adams, Nigella Lawson, Romesh Ranganathan and a musical performance from Dua Lipa.
