Hugh Grant isn’t convinced that his Notting Hill relationship with Julia Roberts’ character ended in the nicest way.

The British actor recently revealed in an interview whether he thinks bookshop owner William Thacker and world famous Hollywood star Anna Scott went the distance.

In Richard Curtis’s romantic comedy,  which was released in 2000, the pair meet, inexplicably fall in love – and end up married with children.

Speaking to Collider, Grant said: “I’m sure that my character in Notting Hill and Julia Roberts’ character have been through the ugliest imaginable divorce with really expensive, nasty lawyers.

He later added as part of a Q&A with HBO's Twitter account that he would like to film a sequel charting the “hideous divorce that’s ensued”.

Grant said it would feature “children involved in tug of love, floods of tears, psychologically scarred forever”.

“I’d love to do that film,” he added.

In the Collider interview, Grant also said he believes the relationships his past characters have had in all of his films were “disasters” and “lies”.

Grant is currently starring opposite Nicole Kidman in new TV series The Undoing, which is available to watch in the UK on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
