Hugh Grant has hit back claims he might be cast to star as Prince Andrew in an upcoming film about the Queen’s son in a now deleted tweet.

The new film, written by Peter Moffatt and titled Scoop, will centre on the infamous Newsnight interview with Prince Andrew and detail how producers secured the event.

Following the announcement, Deadline claimed Mr Grant was actually one of the “unconfirmed names” on a wishlist to play the Prince.

However, the 61-year-old Notting Hill star has since responded suggesting that he hasn’t had any contact with the creators of the film.

He told The Independent: “I’ve heard nowt.”

On Twitter, he also addressed claims of a now deleted tweet that referred to the film saying: “No I’m not. Never heard of it.”

The new film will centre on Prince Andrew’s 2019 Newsnight interview (BBC)

A representative for Grant has been approached by The Standard for further comment.

Filming on Scoop is expected to commence in November 2022.

However, little else is known about the upcoming production that is being written by Moffat for The Lighthouse Film & Television.

The show’s creator explained to Deadline that the film is “about how the BBC’s Newsnight team got the scoop, then the actual filming of it. The other thing is, ‘Why did he agree to do it?’

“How was it that he decided it was a good idea to do a great big long interview with Emily Maitlis on the BBC?”

In 2019, Prince Andrew sat down with Emily Maitlis in a disastrous Newsnight interview over his friendship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Shortly after the appearance, he bowed out of royal duties in 2019.

Virginia Giuffre launched legal action against the Queen’s son for allegedly sexually assaulting her when she was a teenager in a civil case brought against the royal in the US.

Prince Andrew vehemently denies the allegations brought against him.

The Duke of York and Giuffre reached an out of court settlement.
