Hugh Grant lashes out at Tory MPs following Lee Cain resignation

Hugh Grant has lashed out at Tory MPs following the news that Lee Cain has “resigned” from government.

The actor shared a tweet that read: “WOW.... BBC reporting speculation that ‘other departures’ may follow Lee Cain. 'Potentially' Cummings and 'whispers' about Brexit negotiator David Frost.”

Alongside the post, Grant simply wrote, “Ship. Rats,” in reference to the famous phrase “rats leaving a sinking ship”.

The message came after former tabloid journalist Cain, Boris Johnson's senior ally and director of communications, announced he will resign from his post in the new year.

This particular news arrived just 24 hours after reports emerged he was to be promoted to chief of staff at No 10.

The Independent described Cain’s imminent departure as a sign of a bitter power struggle at the heart of government.

The announcement was made after it was reported that some people, including Johnson's fiancee, Carrie Symonds, opposed Cain's promotion.

Grant has long been a vocal critic of the Tory government.

The actor, who turned 60 in October, can currently be seen alongside Nicole Kidman in The Undoing, which is available to watch on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.

In a recent interview, he shared what he described as a “hideous” fate for his Notting Hill character, William Thacker, and Julia Roberts' Hollywood star Anna Scott.
