Hugh Grant brought some whimsical charm to the BAFTA Awards as he channeled his inner Oompa Loompa while presenting the award for best director. The 'Wonka' actor delighted the audience with a spoken-word rendition of the iconic Oompa Loompa song, injecting humor into the prestigious event.

Grant playfully poked fun at the nominees, humorously commenting on the length of their films before revealing the contenders for the best director category. The nominees included Andrew Haigh, Justine Triet, Alexander Payne, Bradley Cooper, Christopher Nolan, and Jonathan Glazer.

Ultimately, Christopher Nolan emerged as the winner, using his acceptance speech to highlight the importance of organizations working towards nuclear disarmament. He emphasized the need for peace and acknowledged the efforts of those striving to reduce the number of nuclear weapons in the world.

Grant's portrayal of an Oompa Loompa in the upcoming film 'Wonka,' directed by Paul King and starring Timothée Chalamet, added a touch of humor to the evening. King revealed that he specifically chose Grant for the role due to his talent in playing characters with a sarcastic edge, describing him as the perfect fit for the role of a 'washed-up old ham.'

'Oppenheimer,' directed by Christopher Nolan, emerged as a dominant force at the BAFTA Awards, securing a total of seven wins, including the coveted best film award and a lead actor win for Cillian Murphy. The film's success underscored its critical acclaim and solidified its position as a standout production of the year.
