Hugh Grant cast in new fantasy film set to be made in Belfast

Hugh Grant is the latest star to have been cast in the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons film adaption.

Grant, who is known for appearance in films like Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually and About A Boy, is set to play the main villain in the adaption, which as yet doesn't have an official title.

Grant most recently starred in limited series The Undoing, which was critically acclaimed, and is currently in production on Guy Ritchie’s latest project Five Eyes.

Also announced today as having joined the cast is Sophia Lillis, the American actress who is best known for playing Beverly Marsh in the IT horror films.

The Dungeons & Dragons film, which comes from the boardgame of the same name, is set to start shooting at Titanic Studios early in 2021.

It had previously been announced last month that actors Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez and Justice Smith had joined the Dungeons and Dragons cast.

The news comes as NI Screen have promised a "great start" to 2021, following what the chief executive described as an "extremely challenging" year with the coronavirus pandemic.

Richard Williams described 2020 as a year of "staggering resilience" within the screen industry.

"As [2020 drew] to a close, many projects including New Regency's The Northman and Jed Mecurio's Line Of Duty have finally wrapped," he told the PA news agency.

"That all of these projects will reach audiences next year is down to hard work, discipline and determination on the part of the teams behind them."

Plot details for the new Dungeons and Dragons film are being kept a secret for now.

Dungeons and Dragons was previously adapted in 2000 as live-action movie starred Jeremy Irons, Thora Birch and Marlon Wayans.

The movie is set for release on May 27, 2022.
