Hugh Dane dead: The Office and Bridesmaids actor dies aged 75

NBC

Hugh Dane, best known for his recurring role as Hank the security guard on NBC's The Office, has died aged 75.

Co-star Rainn Wilson announced the news to fans on Twitter, writing: "RIP Hugh Dane, aka Hank the security guard. He was one of the greats. So kind, funny, talented. We will all miss him."

He further asked for donations to be made in his name to The Los Angeles Inner City Cultural Center. The organisation had previously confirmed Dane died on 16 May, alongside posting information about a memorial service for the actor.

Dane's career as an actor began with a role in the 1989 video game, It Came from the Desert, with his first TV appearance being a role in a two-part episode of Hunter. He made his film debut in 1991, as a prison guard in crime-thriller Richochet.

Outside of The Office, Dane made numerous small appearances in some of TV's most popular sitcoms, including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Hangin' with Mr. Cooper, Boy Meets World, Friends, Sister, Sister, and Monk. He also appeared in the likes of Little Fockers and Bridesmaids

Steve Carell retweeted Wilson's announcement, adding: "What a terrific guy."
