Hugh Dallas wades into Rangers vs Aberdeen penalty furore and claims VAR would NOT have reversed call

Former leading Scottish referee Hugh Dallas has insisted VAR would not have ruled on the controversial penalty awarded to Rangers against Aberdeen.

John Beaton was also under the spotlight after pointing to spot at Ibrox for a clash involving David Bates and Fashion Sakala.

The debated flashpoint has emerged at the same time that fresh talks of video refereeing getting the green light in Scottish football.

Following a meeting of Scottish Premiership clubs, a vote will see the possible green light given for introduction after next year's major tournament in Qatar.

However, Dallas - who now works for European football governing body UEFA as their deputy chief refereeing officer - insists the talker from Ibrox would not be changed from upstairs.

He told the PLZ Football Show: "I saw a penalty incident which caused a great deal of debate in the media, and that's the type of incident that VAR would not get involved in.

"There are elements to say it could have been a foul, and elements to say maybe it wasn't a foul.

"That's not what VAR is for. Absolutely not."

He then discusses the use of VAR in red card decisions, he flagged up the Ryan Porteous' tackle of Joe Aribo as an example of a hot topic which would not be hauled up by the video ref.

Dallas went on: "That challenge, definitely VAR would not be involved.

"The VAR would say there are elements to support a red card there, and wouldn't get involved."
