Hugging between family and friends 'to be allowed from next week'

Loved ones will be able to hug each other from next week, as long as people use their common sense, it has been reported.

The Prime Minister is expected to announce, that from May 17, friends and family not from the same household will be able to legally embrace, as long as Covid-19 infections remain low.

Boris Johnson is likely to say that everyone should use their “personal judgement” and their “common sense” when it comes to hugging after May 17, the Sunday Telegraph reports.

When asked, Downing Street did not deny the reports but played them down, stressing that any decisions on this would be data-driven.

It is also reported that Mr Johnson will allow funerals with up to 30 mourners will be able to go ahead a month earlier than planned from May 17.

However, rules on weddings and “other life or commemorative events” will remain unchanged, according to the Telegraph.

The key date will also bring back indoor seated service for pubs and restaurants, with no curfew.

Other venues such as cinemas and music venues will also be permitted to open - but they won't be able to operate at full capacity just yet.

Hotels, hostels and B&Bs are also going to be given the green light, as will children's play areas.

Provided Stage 3 of the roadmap goes to plan, June 21 is the important date that could mean the end of all Covid-19 restrictions.
