Huge turnover growth at fuel-saving device firm after Dragons' Den appearance

The firm behind fuel-saving device Firemizer has reported huge growth following an appearance on BBC show Dragons' Den.

Nottingham-based manufacturer Microtex Products has increased its turnover by £7 million as it continued its expansion of export sales to Europe, Canada and the US.

Company bosses said the BBC appearance led to a new business focus which has seen it look at growing the potential of its core products, including Firemizer.

Brian Irvine, CEO of Microtex, said: "The past year has been an exciting one for the business as it continues to see unprecedented growth in the UK and in other key geographical markets.

"We’re set for another fantastic year with plenty of exciting opportunities. We are now on track for 2019 to be our busiest year yet."

Firemizer was launched in 2014 and is designed to reduce emissions from wood-burning stoves.

It is a blend of stainless steel alloys which are welded together to create a grid which is placed on the base of a stove or hearth.

This reduces the "burn rate" and ensures heat is spread evenly across the fire and all fuel is burnt.

In addition to the new focus, the group has invested almost £400,000 on new high-tech machinery which will help the firm reach its long-term objectives.

Mr Irvine added: "Our investment in Firemizer is already paying dividends as large players within the stove manufacturing industry are keen to use Firemizer’s unique fuel saving properties to their advantage.

“With the increasing focus on green sustainability and the need to dramatically cut our carbon emissions, we are now well-positioned to expand our services further and capitalise on opportunities.”
