Huge turnout for funeral of Inverness family killed in A82 horror smash

A tragic family who were killed on a horror smash on the A82 have been laid to rest in a moving ceremony.

The family of four - including two young children - all died when the Mini Cooper they were travelling in collided with a red Ford Fiesta at Torlundy – an accident blackspot – a few miles north of Fort William on Thursday, February 20.

More than 1000 friends and relatives gathered to celebrate the lives of dad Rhys Cousin, 25, mum Gemma, 26, and daughters Peyton 3, and Heidi 1, of Westhill, Inverness.

A Humanist service was held at noon on Thursday at the William T Fraser funeral home prior to the burial at Kilvean Cemetery.

Previously, Gemma’s sister Rebecca Davidson said: “We have been sent love from all over the world.”

Gemma’s mum Tracy Davidson told a local paper: “They had so many friends, and there are two large extended families, so it will be a big funeral.

"They will be buried in two coffins – Gemma and Rhys will be buried in a cuddling position with the children. Just as they were in life, always together.

“We are overwhelmed by the kindness of everyone. From the undertakers, to the registrars and the emergency services, we have been touched with everyone’s kindness.

“I cannot tell you how important that is for all of the family.”

Rhys’s mum Samantha Cousin, who now lives in Orkney, said: “When the police came to my door to tell me what had happened, they could not have been kinder. They stayed with me as I began to take the information in, as much as you can take it in.

“Saying ‘thank you’ just does not seem like enough. It does not even come close to what I feel for all the support I have been given.

“Everyone has been so kind to us and everything they are doing means so much to us. I am simply overwhelmed.”
