Huge trampoline blown into middle of motorway as Storm Brendan sweeps in

This is the shocking moment a huge trampoline was captured on camera in the middle of a busy motorway thanks to Storm Brendan

The trampoline can be seen upright in the centre of the M7 motorway in Ireland as heavy rain and winds of up to 80mph continue to ravage the country.

Cars were filmed driving past while trying to avoid the trampoline as it takes up two lanes at the exit for University Limerick.

The footage - which you can watch above - was shared on Twitter by Michael Finnan today, who tweeted: "Anyone lose a trampoline?? One found on M7 just before UL exit into Limerick."

It has since been watched almost 90K times, and has garnered more than 1.5K retweets.

Winds of up to 80mph were forecast ahead of the storm's arrival earlier this morning (Jan 13), with Irish weather service Met Eireann issuing a danger to life warning.

So far, the strongest gust has been recorded at 83mph in County Cork.

Weather experts warn that the storm may pose a "threat to life and property" to Ireland today due to "extreme winds" and "severe and damaging gusts".

The public have been advised to steer clear of coastal areas if possible and to expect some delay and disruption to transport.

As the storm system travels west across Ireland, 60-100mph winds are also expected to blast mainland England.

How to drive safely in high winds

A second severe warning for wind has been issued across all westerns coasts of the UK until midnight tonight, with a further alert in place from 12pm on Tuesday that covers all of England and Wales.

"Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely," the warning states, "some short term loss of power and other services is also possible."

Storm Brendan was officially named by Met Éireann on Saturday.

It is the second named storm of the season, following Storm Atiyah that struck the country back in December.
