Huge train disruption as services suspended after fallen trees and debris

Multiple train services have been suspended this morning amid severe powerful winds.

Storm Arwen is currently raging away and has already caused disruption over night with hundreds of homes being without power.

Now train services have been suspended between Bristol Temple Meads and Taunton northbound as well as between Birmingham New Street and Cheltenham Spa.

Inrix, the travel monitoring site, reports: "Service suspended on CrossCountry and Great Western Railway Northbound between Taunton and Bristol Temple Meads due to fallen tree on the line."

It also confirms the that an obstruction on the line is causing the issue further north.

Inrix reports: "Service suspended on CrossCountry between Birmingham New Street and Cheltenham Spa due to obstruction on the line."

Not only that there is currently no service on South Western Railway between Yeovil Junction and Castle Cary due to points failure at Yeovil Pen Mill.

Across the border in Wales, there is no service at all on Transport for Wales due to poor weather conditions and replacement buses are unavailable.

Elsewhere there are delays of up to 60 minutes and some cancellations on Cross Country and Great Western Railway between Exeter St Davids and Penzance due to speed restrictions and poor weather conditions.

The roads across the South West haven't faired much better with fallen trees, fallen scaffolding, and fallen power cables causing issues locally.
