A huge sum of cash has been seized after a house in Crumlin was raided in connection with the arrest of four armed men who were stopped by gardai on the M7 on Thursday.

The money, which was in several currencies and denominations, is estimated to total around €135,000.

A van, two motorcycles and a quantity of cannabis were also seized during the raid on the house in the Windmill Road area.

Detective Units from Crumlin and Sundrive Road garda stations carried out the search.

They were assisted by local uniform gardai, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, ERU and ASU.

Four men - one aged in his 30s, two in their 40s and one in their 50s - threatened staff with a handgun during a stand off at a commercial garage in Clonroche, Wexford on Thursday morning.

No shots were fired and no one was injured during the incident with the men leaving the scene in a silver Hyundai car.

The car was intercepted on the M7 by the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) at around 10am, a short time after the incident.

The four men were arrested and the car in question was seized for technical examination.
