Huge street party is happening in Bristol city centre this weekend

A huge street party is taking place in Bristol this weekend, bringing a carnival atmosphere to one of the city centre's most scenic streets.

Bristol is always lively on a Saturday afternoon but this weekend it's likely to be just as busy on Sunday, as Food Connections festival is brought to a close with a bang.

The family-friendly party runs from 11am - 5pm and will feature plenty to entertain people of all ages with live DJs and street performers, theatrical storytelling, delicious food and more.

Maps which show the hidden architectural gems that tell the story of old Bristol will also be handed out on the day, adding an informative and educational element to the event.

Corn Street and Small Street will both be closed to traffic so that people can come together to enjoy the festivities and celebrate this historic part of the city.

Food will be a major theme of the event, with traders on Corn Street selling a wide range of food and drink, which can be enjoyed on the go or alfresco within the specially-created outdoor eating areas, complete with deck chair and bench seating.

Keith Rundle, from Bristol City Centre BID, which is organising the event, said: "This area is home to some of Bristol's oldest curiosities, from medieval vaults to the giant 18 century brass trading tables, known as nails, outside what is now St Nicholas Market, it is alive with fascinating stories.

"We want everyone to wander around this unique area, enjoy the free activities and sample some delicious food.

"Since Tudor times, fetes and fairs have always been an important part of Bristol's historical culture so it seems fitting to keep the tradition alive with our own Old City Street Party."
