Huge Edinburgh A90 speeding crackdown snares six drivers doing more than 20mph over limit

Six motorists were caught doing 20mph faster than the speed limit on the A90 in Edinburgh this week.

Officers from the national motorcycle unit spent Monday afternoon carrying out speed checks on the busy northbound route near Dalmeny.

They caught various drivers going too fast, including six who were detected at various speeds in excess of 70mph. The limit on the route is 50mph. Roads Policing Scotland say that one driver was detected going as fast as 80mph.

30 drivers were also pulled over as police carried out speed checks on a busy Midlothian route this week.

Officers spent Tuesday (19 February) clamping down on speeding at the B6372 Powdermill Brae in Gorebridge. Although no offences were detected by police, a number of drivers were spoken to.

Midlothian Police say they are using the opportunity to remind "all motorists to drive to the conditions and always adhere to speed limits".

Conditions have been difficult on a number of roads throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians this week as snow and ice returned to the area.

Police shared news of their enforcement activity on social media, saying: "On Tuesday 19 January, funded Midlothian Community Team officers carried out further speed checks on Powdermill Brae in Gorebridge following reports of speeding in the area.

"Around 30 vehicles were stopped and engagement carried out with drivers and members of the community.

"No offences were detected during the checks carried out, however we would continue to ask all motorists to drive to the conditions and always adhere to speed limits."
