Huge smiley face returns to sky above Bristol

A huge smiley face has appeared in the skies above Bristol once again thanks to a mystery pilot.

A small aircraft circled above the city earlier this afternoon (Friday, July 17), creating an emoji-like face which could be seen in places such as the harbourside, Fishponds and Horfield.

The unusual sky art against today's beautiful, clear blue sky was a welcome sight for hundreds of residents.

Sarah Webb, 32, from Fishponds, said: "I think it's lovely that they are drawing smiley faces in the sky to brighten up our day.

"'I think they are continuing to try and boost morale whilst many of us are still working from home."

One person added on Twitter: "So so so very excited to see a pilot draw a smiley face above our lovely BRISTOL."

Another said: "The Bristol smiley face pilot has been at it again. Makes up for the lack of balloons this summer."

Today's spectacle follows last month's stunt by the kind-hearted pilot who created two very similar smiley faces in the sky above Bristol.

The unidentified person flying the small aircraft circled above the city twice in the evening on June 2, creating the faces above the Hotwells area and Almondsbury.

At the time, tracking system Flight Radar showed the aircraft travelled to Wedmore after our city before flying to Gloucestershire.
