Huge singalong and fireworks as Wannabe ends Spice Girls' Sunderland show in epic style

There were fireworks quite literally when they arrived on stage and it was the same as Spice Girls said goodbye to Sunderland in explosive style on Thursday.

It seemed like an eternity ago that Emma, Geri, Mel B and Mel C announced the Spice World tour and this week it was finally time for it to descend on Wearside.

Thousands of Spice Girls fans flocked to the Stadium of Light to see the girls, with a real party vibe on the pitch as the sun shone above.

with gusto as fireworks greeted the ladies as they made their first appearance on stage and from then on in it was banger after banger after banger - and I'm not just talking about the pyrotechnics!

Classic singles Who Do You Think You Are, Holler and Say You'll Be There saw the Spice Girls and their captive audience in their element and, dare we say it, living their best life!

But there was only ever one song that could end the set and it was 100% the one everyone really, really, really wanted to hear.

It was back in the summer of 1996 that Wannabe made its ascent to the top of the charts but ita still  a serious tune and pop classics.

The Spice Girls needn't have even sung the song as the packed crowd in front of them did the job for them as fireworks filled the night sky to bring proceedings to a barnstorming crescendo.

And the singing continued in the streets of Sunderland after too!
