Huge signing boost for St Mirren as Jim Goodwin bags key target Joe Shaughnessy

St Mirren have bolstered their ranks ahead of the new Premiership season after completing a significant defensive signing.

The Buddies have been chasing Joe Shaughnessy's signature since he left Southend United at the start of July and a deal has now finally been rubber stamped.

The 28-year-old former Aberdeen and St Johnstone man links up after agreeing a two-year contract.

The defender represents the fourth of the summer for the Saints.

Shaughnessy joins former Motherwell defender Richard Tait, ex-Rangers keeper Jak Alnwick and former Liverpool youth academy midfielder Nathan Sheron through the doors at the Simple Digital Arena.

Goodwin previously stated he wanted to bring in six new players before the club's 2020/21 Premiership opener against Livingston on Saturday August 1 in Paisley.

It remains to be seen whether there is enough cash left in the budget to bring in two more players.
