Huge sign falls from Clifton storefront 'narrowly missing' shoppers

Shoppers making their way through a busy Clifton street were left shocked when a huge sign fell without warning from a storefront.

According to eyewitnesses, two people narrowly avoided being crushed beneath the Johnson's cleaners sign when it plummeted to the ground at around 10am on Princess Victoria Street.

Images from the scene show astonished onlookers staring at the sign, which appears to have ripped wooden and metal supports from behind the facade as it fell onto the pavement next to a row of parked cars.

One passer-by said: "It fell off at around 10am on Saturday narrowly missing two shoppers in the busy street.

''A police car happened to be passing.''

Shop staff declined to comment and we were not able to reach Johnson's head office for a statement.
