'Huge shock' as dedicated South Wales Police officer dies suddenly aged 49

Tributes have been paid to a Cardiff police constable who has died suddenly.

Rob Parry, 49, was based in the Hub at Cardiff Bay, but had previously worked in different police roles across the city.

He had been a police officer for seven years, and had worked as a PCSO and a Special Constable before that.

South Wales Police said he died suddenly at home on Wednesday. No further information has been given but the force said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

Paying tribute, Chief Constable Jeremy Vaughan said: "I know Rob’s passing will come as a huge shock, and all at South Wales Police are devastated by the news. My sincere condolences go to Rob’s loved ones, especially his closest colleagues, friends, and – of course – his family.

"Rob had been an officer with us in South Wales Police since 2013, and a PCSO and a Special Constable before that. His dedication and compassion made him a well-respected and much-loved member of our police family.

"We will do all that we can to support Rob’s family at this extremely difficult time

Tributes were paid social media with one person saying: "RIP and thank you for your work in the communities of Wales."

Another said: "As a member of the public, not knowing this policeman, with respect thank you for your time in the force condolences to his family and all his friends and colleagues."

Constable Parry had previously won praise for his work in the local community when he was a PCSO in St Mellons.

In 2011, he led a campaign which saw children, flanked by a police officer, give out warnings to parents who parked illegally outside schools.

Speaking at the time, he said: "These days it’s important we educate adults through their children, as well as the other way around.”

"Rest in peace Rob."
