Huge Scots forest fire breaks out near military defence range sparking emergency response

A huge Scots forest fire broke out near military defence range yesterday.

Mercy crews desperately battled flames for more than eight hours near Tain.

Highland firefighters scrambled to the woodland area at the Ministry of Defence (MOD) Air Weapons Range at around 1.30pm to tackle the fire.

The wildfire engulfed around 7.4 acres of young trees across the grounds, reports The Press and Journal.

Pictures showed large smoke clouds billow from the tree tops as the fire spread.

Three appliances from Inverness and Dornoch remained stationed at the blaze to help extinguish the flames.

Appliances from Tain Dornoch, Balintore and Invergordon were also dispatched to scene alongside the water carrier/argocat from Inverness after the alarm was raised.

Firefighters also deployed knapsacks and backpacks in an effort to bring the fire under control.
