Huge rush-hour delays on A1 following two-multi-vehicle crashes

Emergency services are in attendance at two crashes on the A1 involving multiple vehicles.

Officers are currently on the scene of a three-vehicle collision involving a HGV and two cars on the A1 Western Bypass.

Traffic is moving very slowly on the southbound carriageway at J69 with one lane closed to traffic.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "At 4.17pm today (Monday) we received a report of a road traffic collision on A184 southbound at j69, involving an HGV and two cars.

"Officers are currently at the scene and motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible to avoid congestion."

It is believed that no one has been injured as a result of a collision.

Two lanes are also closed on the A1(M) northbound at Chester-le-Street following a two-vehicle collision at around 5pm.

Police are at the scene of the crash with heavy traffic reported in the area.

Drivers are able to pass the scene of the crash near J63 on the hard shoulder.

It is currently unknown if there have been any injuries from this incident.

Both incidents are causing chaos for rush hour commuters in the North East.
