Huge rescue operation after girl, 12, breaks both arms falling from a rope swing

Mountain rescuers helped bring a 12-year-old girl to safety after she broke both arms falling from a rope swing.

Paramedics were called to Glodwick in Oldham on Thursday evening following the accident.

Seventeen members of Oldham Mountain Rescue Team were also called to help paramedics stretcher the girl up the steep banking into a waiting ambulance.

She was later found to have broken both arms and gashed her knee.

A statement on the OMRT Facebook page said: "Just as dusk was falling on Thursday evening, we received a request from North West Ambulance Service for help with the evacuation of a 12-year-old female who had suffered a fall from a rope swing in Glodwick.

"The girl was being cared for by the NWAS crew on scene but they needed our specialist equipment to extract from the steep wooded location.

"With help from one of the team doctors, she was packaged onto our stretcher and then hauled the short distance to the top of the slope, from where she was carried to the waiting ambulance.

"It was then back to base to carry out the now familiar disinfection regime.

"She was later diagnosed in hospital as having broken both arms and gashed her knee. We wish her a speedy recovery.

"17 OMRT personnel were involved for just over 1hr 30mins."
