Huge relief as 'anxious' dog missing in Edinburgh for three days is reunited with owner

An 'anxious' dog which had been missing in Edinburgh for three days is now back home resting and recovering.

Betty, a one year old Lurcher, became startled while out on a walk at the Hermitage of Braid on Saturday morning and ran off from her despairing owner.

A search got underway with a number of people desperately trying to find her, and a raft public appeals also issued over social media.

More than 48 hours later, on Monday afternoon, motorists were being warned to take care as she had been seen running around on roads throughout the city.

One sighting of her was on Gilmour Place near the King's Theatre – around two miles from where she went missing.

Drivers urged to be aware of 'anxious' missing rescue dog seen running around Edinburgh roads

Appeals for her safe return continued to be shared widely across the city – with teams of people still out desperately searching for her.

And the hard work paid off when she was reunited with her owner this morning.

The woman, who asked not to be named, told Edinburgh Live that a farmer in the Juniper area got in contact with her to say that he could see Betty sitting in his back garden.

She added: "I went straight there and I could see her just sitting there in the garden. She didn't recognise me at first as I think she had just been so startled by everything.

"But when she eventually realised it was me she was quite excited and we managed to get her in the car."

The owner, who is from Fairmilehead, added: "She is absolutely knackered now, so she is just resting. We're taking her to the vets tomorrow, but today will just be a chance for her to recover.

"I would just like to say thank you to everyone who shared the appeal. Even Lothian Buses put out a message, and Alexis and Gill at the Edinburgh and Lothian Lost Dogs Facebook page have been amazing.

"We were really worried as she had been seen out on the road and drivers were slowing down for her. There are a lot of good people out there."
