Huge 'Rambo-style' knife found on teenager after he and four others are pinned to the floor by police in Manchester city centre

This is the dramatic moment police took a 'foot-long Rambo-style' knife from a young man after pinning him - and four others - to the floor in the middle of Manchester city centre.

Officers were called to Portland Street, near Britannia Hotel, just before 2pm on Wednesday (January 8).

Shocking footage shared with the Manchester Evening News  shows five young men dressed in sports gear on the ground with their hands cuffed behind their backs, surrounded by police.

One of them is seen being searched by an officer, who is later seen holding a huge hunting knife.

He is then helped to his feet before being led to the back of a police van.

A spokesman for GMP confirmed a 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

A man who witnessed the incident said he heard officers shouting at the group to 'get on the ground'.

"I was on my lunch break," he said.

"All of a sudden, I heard loads of sirens and wondered what was happening.

"The next thing I hear 'get down on the ground' and there's two police vehicles and six officers and I see five young men all down on the ground.

"I started filming and out of the pocket of one of the men, police pulled out a foot-long Rambo knife.

"I've never seen anything like it."

GMP said in a statement: "Police were called shortly after 1.50pm today (January 8) to reports that a man was in possession of a bladed article on Portland Street.
