Huge queues at Liverpool Central as fans head home after Champions League victory parade

Huge queues formed at Liverpool Central station tonight following the Champions League victory parade .

This picture shows the staggering amount of people who were left waiting at the station as everyone tried to head home.

There were so many people waiting for trains, the queue stretched outside and up Bold Street at one point.

ECHO reporter Elle May Rice , who was at the station said: “It’s wall to wall waiting for trains. Staff are sorting people into queues for different lines but it looks like it will be a long wait. “The queue for Chester is down Ranalagh Street and curving round on to Bold Street.”

Merseyrail tweeted: "Travel Update 20:15 - It remains very busy in Liverpool with queues at both Moorfields and Liverpool Central. Thanks again for your patience, we will have you on the move as quickly as possible". Earlier, it urged people to stay in central Liverpool longer to avoid the queues.

The victory parade started at 4pm this afternoon in Allerton, before heading up Queens Drive, along West Derby Road and into the city centre.

As the bus headed down the Strand, fireworks and flares went off as thousands of fans cheered the team on following their 2-0 victory over Spurs last night.
