Huge queue forms outside Debenhams as store reopens for major clearance sale

A huge queue formed outside Debenhams in Manchester city centre this morning as the store reopened for a clearance sale.

The high street retailer previously announced it would be closing for good, but that stores would reopen today for a massive closing down sale.

And dozens of eager shoppers arrived early to get their hands on a bargain this morning.

A huge queue formed on Market Street before the shop opened at 10am.

Most people were pictured wearing masks and appeared to be social distancing.

As the doors opened, shoppers rushed inside to make the most of the sale.

Queues also formed outside Size, Zara and JD Sport this morning as non-essential shops reopened under Step Two of the government's roadmap out of lockdown.

Video footage taken outside the Arndale shopping centre at 7am showed dozens of eager shoppers racing to join a queue to get inside.

Police and security guards had to assist.

As well as non-essential shops, beer gardens, hairdressers and gyms can reopen today.

The Prime Minister has urged people to 'behave responsibly' as rules are relaxed.
