Huge praise for family who put toy gorilla outside their house on the A38 to cheer up boy with autism

Bristol Live readers have been praising a family who have a toy gorilla hanging outside their house - for a very lovely reason.

Something which started as a family joke ended up brightening the day of a little boy with autism each time he drove past it with his parents.

And now it seems the pink house with the gorilla has become somewhat of a landmark in Almondsbury.

Bristol Live reported yesterday (April 27) exactly why a pink house on the A38 has a toy gorilla hanging from it.

The large cuddly toy, which hangs from a window on the road near to the Hortham Lane junction, raised a lot of questions.

Friends to 'call police' on Camelot for denying them £4million Lotto win

And when we revealed the gorilla, whose real name is George, is there to brighten a little boy's day - the reaction was huge.

Terri-Ann Bourton, who lives in the pink house with her parents, explained several months ago her dad hung the gorilla toy over the fence as a joke, before putting it onto some scaffolding. But the gorilla fell down and was torn apart by the family dog.

The family soon found out the gorilla was very much missed as a family friend overheard someone talking about how his son was upset it was no longer there.

After hearing the little boy, who has autism, was upset, Terri-Ann's dad Jason bought a replacement gorilla and hung it from the upstairs window.

And it seems lots of people love to drive past the cute and cuddly ape which has become somewhat of a landmark in Almondsbury.
