Huge police scene as officers investigate after crash in Salford

A large police scene has been in place for much of the day after a crash in Salford.

Officers were guarding police tape across Camp Street and Grecian Street in Lower Broughton from around 11.30am this morning (Saturday) as investigators plotted marks in the road.

Numbered yellow markers were down as officers took surveys across the road along and conducted speed tests.

At least four police vans were present as enquiries continued.

What appeared to be drops of blood were also seen on the ground where markers had been once police left the scene at approximately 4pm.

Residents were also stopped from going into their homes as officers combed the street, but it is not known exactly when the crash took place.

Details of the crash are also unclear at this stage, though North West Ambulance Service has confirmed that it was not a 'major incident' and the police say it does 'appear to be a crash'.

The force duty inspector for Greater Manchester Police added: "This has not been escalated so I don't believe this was a serious incident."

One resident of Camp Street, who wished not to be named, said they left for work at 6.30am when there was no police scene. Later today, they returned to find that the road was cordoned off and being swept for information.

Other residents say they heard a loud bang outside last night at around midnight, but many say they were asleep and did not hear anything.

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for further comment.
