Huge police response after man stabbed at hotel

Police descended on a town centre hotel after a man was stabbed in the stomach.

Emergency services were called to the Scarisbrick Hotel, Southport, on Wednesday night when the 28-year-old was assaulted inside the Britannia-owned building.

The victim was rushed to hospital but police said today that his injuries were not life-threatening.

Another man, aged 26, was arrested at the scene and taken into custody for questioning.

A police spokesman said: “At around 8.20pm, officers were called to the Scarisbrick Hotel on Lord Street following reports a 28-year-old man had been assaulted, sustaining a stab wound to his stomach.

“He was taken to hospital for treatment to his injury, described as non-life-threatening.

“A short time later, a 26-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent. He remains in custody for questioning.

“CCTV, forensic and witness enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to get in touch.”
