Huge police presence on Crosby beach as woman stuck in sand

A woman was rescued by emergency services on Crosby beach this morning after she became stuck in the sand.

Police, fire crews and the coastguard were called to Burbo Bank Rd South, at around 7.35am on Thursday, to assist with the rescue.

The woman was found stranded around 100 yards off shore after she became trapped up to her knees.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police confirmed the woman was safe following the incident and did not have any injuries.

Photos taken at the scene this morning show two police vehicles parked up on the sand, beside a large group of people.

The incident comes shortly after four people and a dog were rescued by the coastguard in Wirral on Wednesday, around a mile offshore from Leasowe Lighthouse.

The group had found themselves in danger after being cut off from the tide.

It was the third call out in a week for the Hoylake RNLI hovercraft as more people choose local beauty spots for their daily exercise.

A spokesperson from Merseyside told the ECHO today: "We were called to Burbo Bank Rd South at 7.35am, to reports of concern for a woman who appeared to be stuck in the sand.

"The fire service and the coastguard were made aware.

"The woman was stuck in the sand almost up to her knees.

"She was confirmed safe at 8.20am."
